Part of the celebration of the Queen’s platinum jubilee in 2022 is the ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ or ‘Treebilee’ – the planting of trees throughout the kingdom.
In March 2022, a native oak was planted in our village. It was provided by the East Suffolk council and kindly planted by Chris Taylor. It’s at the far end of the playing field, looking very happy in the wildflower section of the field.
A smart metal guard was recently positioned around the tree to keep it safe from any curious or hungry deer. Our oak tree was in a perfect position to oversee our jubilee celebrations this jubilee bank holiday weekend.

We hope this special commemorative tree will live to give pleasure to many generations of Otley villagers and, of course, to give shade and habitat to our local insects and wildlife as it grows older.
