OUR AIM

Celebrating and protecting nature in Otley ... for today's community and future generations.

PEOPLE

This is a website for and by the people of Otley celebrating the connection we all have with nature.

Young and old, we can all enjoy and protect the natural places we live alongside.

environment

We are the guardians of our small parish in East Suffolk. Some of us are responsible for farmland, many of us have gardens, and we all share common places such as road verges, footpaths . . .

WILDLIFE

From badgers to buzzards, hedgehogs to hares, woodpeckers to weasels, and a whole host of insects, reptiles and amphibians, Otley is not just home to humans but also to a plethora of wildlife.

TREE & HEDGES

Getting to know and love the trees in Otley that shape our environment, clean our air, offer us shade, feed and give shelter to wildlife . . .

PLANTS & FLOWERS

What plant are flowering and thriving in Otley?

WILDLIFE

Just because we’re not a wildlife reserve, it doesn’t mean we have no wildlife.

FARMS & GARDENS

The farming land around us is hugely important both for our food and for nature. Equally, our private land and gardens can be havens for wildlife, insects, birds . . .

Otley residents caring for our environment

We are proud to live in a lovely part of Suffolk. We’re a rural parish and our environment is an important part of why we love living here.
Working together, we can try to ensure that the land around us retains a balance of being practical and beautiful, giving both us and nature a wonderful place to be.

To all Otley residents

Hello! I have lived and worked in Otley since 2005 and love our village and the land around us.

As someone who is passionate about nature, I volunteered to become Otley’s Tree Warden in November 2021. The Tree Warden network is an initiative of The Tree Council.

I believe all of us find it easier to care about something if we know something about it and

feel a connection with it.

I decided to make a website to celebrate and showcase all Otley’s wonderful natural places and animals  . . . and our interaction with them.

I hope there is something of interest for everyone, and I would encourage anyone – young or old – with an interest in photography, writing or drawing to get in touch about adding to this site. Let’s share what we know and our enthusiasm for where we live.

With best wishes,

Amanda Marks
